What NOT to do if You Want to Lose Weight

Frequent eating out – If you find that you eat most meals out on the weekend then that is a behavior you need to change.  A 2016 study published in the European Journal of Clinical Medicine showed that on average, a person eats an extra 200 calories when they eat out compared to if they ate at home.  Preparing and eating at home means you know exactly what is in your meal…and it will save you hundreds of calories!

Watch cooking shows – Masterchef may be your favourite TV show but the bad news is that it is doing your waistline no favours.  Research shows that women who watch a lot of cooking shows are about 5kg heavier than women hardly ever watch a cooking show.  So switch the channel next time you see Matt Preston appear on your TV screen.

Not sleeping –   The lack of adequate shuteye may also be sabotaging your weight loss efforts.  When you’re tired, it can create a vicious cycle of grabbing a sweet, calorie-laden treat during the day (to try and boost your energy levels with a sugar ‘fix’) and then picking up drive-thru instead of cooking dinner because you are too tired.  Not enough hours of sleep also slows down your metabolism, so make sure you get 7-8 hours every night.
