Why Do Biggest Loser Contestants Regain Lost Weight?

The Biggest Loser is a popular reality TV show where we get to watch the contestants diet and exercise to extreme levels in order to ‘win’ the title of having achieved the greatest weight loss.  However, their phenomenal results on the show are short-lived with almost all of the contestants regaining their weight loss once they go back into the real world.  This week we will investigate the scientific reason as to why this happens and also look at why this DOES NOT happen with The Natural Way’s program.

A weight loss study recently published in a scientific journal in the USA looked at the long term results of the former contestants and found that most had put on all (or most) of their lost weight.  The reason why is because it seems that the unsustainable diet and exercise regime of The Biggest Loser contestants caused a permanent alteration in their metabolisms.  Prior to the show, most contestants had ‘normal’ metabolisms however after the intense period weight loss through intense diet and exercise, the study revealed a significant drop in their metabolic rate.  This means going back to normal eating – even if their eating habits are much healthier – will lead to inevitable weight gain.    (read more here:   http://tinyurl.com/jgmkj8l ).
