To Detox or Not to Detox?

Can you imagine if you didn’t clean your house for a whole month?  It would be looking bad pretty quickly and in no time dust and dirt would soon accumulate.  The same principle holds true for our bodies.   If you are still recovering from a holiday season of overeating and overindulging, your body really needs a thorough ‘clean’ to function at its best.  If you fail to stop and ‘clean out’ your system, your digestive system becomes overburdened with toxins.  This week I want to talk about what toxins are and why it is important eliminate them with a detox (particularly after a time of over-indulgence).

What is a toxin?  They are harmful by-products resulting from the metabolism of nutrients, pollutants, pesticides, food additives, medical drugs and alcohol. It is your livers’ job to ‘detoxify’ these potentially harmful substances and it usually can quite efficiently.  However after prolonged periods of overdoing it with all the ‘wrong’ foods and drinks, your all-important liver can get overburdened and your body begins to ‘accumulate’ a lot of toxins which can make you feel tired, bloated and cause headaches.  Not only that, excessive toxin accumulation can make your skin look dull (and even break out) and cause constipation & other digestive problems.

If you are feeling tired after a busy festive season – and now the kids’ are back at school – you can focus on YOU again and get your body back into tip-top shape.  The best way to get the body flushing out toxins is to increase your water intake:  you should be drinking between 1.5-2 litres a day.  Better still, forget the coffee first thing in the morning – start your day with a cup of warm water and a squeeze of fresh lemon juice.  This is a fantastic, alkalising start to your day and really gives the kidneys a boost in helping to eliminate excess fluid.

The foods you eat when you are detoxing should be clean and unprocessed – water and fibre-filled fruits and vegetables should make up the bulk of your food intake with lightly steamed / grilled protein sources like fish, chicken etc.

If you need more advice about how to embark on a detox, you need to talk to us.  Our complete Detox kit consists of two formulations:  De-xtra and Herbal Cleanza.  It is suggested that while using these 2 cleansing formulations, you should also strive to complement the process by way of eating  food that support the ‘cleansing’ process.  This ensures that there is less demand on your liver, kidneys and digestive system during the detox phase.  The Natural Way offers guidelines for ‘good’ eating through the Detox brochure that is included in the Detox Kit.

Call 1300 SLIMMER (1300 754663) and talk to your friendly consultant about our 2-week Detox program.  Even better, if you buy it before the end of January, you can purchase the Detox kit for only $50 – a fabulous saving of $15
