Healthy Takeaway Food that Won’t Ruin Your Weight Loss Efforts

It’s Friday night, you’ve had a LOOOONNNGG week at work and the last thing you feel like is cooking.  Buying dinner sounds like a great idea but you are a little worried – you have been so good all week on weight loss regime so you don’t really want to ‘blow it all’ on greasy takeaway.  This week, I want to help you to make the right choices next time you want to treat yourself to takeaway.

A kebab plate is a perfectly healthy takeaway meal - and it won't sabotage your weight loss efforts

  1. Kebabs (the healthy way) – Your local kebab shop can give you a great healthy, low-carb dinner by simply omitting one ingredient: the bread!  A kebab plate is the perfect dinner option and you can enjoy all the makings of a ‘traditional’ kebab (even a little sauce will be ok) without the extra carbs and calories of the Lebanese bread – perfect!
  2. Asian – Choose a meat & vegetable stir-fry (not in a creamy curry sauce) and eat without rice / noodles. Extra carbs at night will just slow down your weight loss, so swap for an extra serving of steamed Asian greens and boost your vitamins & mineral intake.  Clear Asian soup (such as Vietnamese Pho) is also a great meal, but be sure to order less noodles and more meat.   If you have a Thai restaurant close by, a classic Thai Beef Salad is a great choice too.  Picking up a sashimi box from a Japanese restaurant is also a fantastic option.
  3. Chicken – There is nothing easier than grabbing a BBQ chicken! If you haven’t got the ingredients at home, purchase a salad to go with it (preferably a green salad that is light on dressing) and be sure to not eat the skin or stuffing.
  4. Fish and (no) Chips– Fish and chip shops don’t just COOK battered or crumbed fish: they will often do grilled fish which is a perfect high-protein, low fat meal.  Instead of chips, swap for a green salad.
