Amazing Avocado is Your Weight Loss Friend

There is so much confusion surrounding the ‘right’ and ‘wrong’ foods to eat while you are losing weight.   Unfortunately, avocado is a food that has been put in the ‘bad’ food category for quite a while due to its relatively high fat and calorie content.  However, avocado is one of the BEST foods you can eat if you want to lose weight and it has some pretty fantastic health benefits too!  This week, I want to share with you the reasons why you should be eating avocado, particularly if you are following The Natural Way’s weight loss program:

Avocado really is one very nutrient-dense food!  I mentioned the fat content above:  while avocado does contain fat, the fat it contains is the ‘good’ monounsaturated fat.  By ‘good’ fat, I mean that (unlike saturated fats) monounsaturated fats can help reduce bad cholesterol levels in your blood which decreases you risk of heart disease.  Not only that, the fat in avocado is important for healthy brain function and may even help to prevent dementia & Alzheimer’s.

In addition to the ‘good’ fat, avocado contains potassium (twice as much as banana), vitamin E, carotenoids, B vitamins (B5, B6), vitamin C, vitamin K and folate which contribute to maintaining your optimal health.  Avocado is also rich in lutein which is a potent antioxidant that prevents degenerative conditions of the eye and improves overall eye health.  Lutein may also reduce the risk of cancer and type 2 diabetes.

When you are trying to lose weight, avocado is a great daily addition to your diet – it really helps to keep your appetite satisfied (thanks to being so nutrient rich) and has a stabilizing effect on your blood sugar levels, making you much less prone to the mid-afternoon ‘sugar’ fix.
