Debunking Nutritional Myths – Part Six

There is a lot of misinformation about what is ‘good’ and ‘bad’ for you in terms of weight loss and diet.  This week, I am continuing the blog series on debunking nutritional myths and am focusing on something that is possibly the biggest myth of all!  So many people assume that you become overweight when you overeat and under exercise.  Unfortunately, it’s not that simple.  Read on to find out more:

Myth #6 – You are Overweight Because You Eat Too Much and are Too Lazy

As I weight loss consultant, I meet clients’ everyday who have struggled with controlling their weight for years.  Most of them try diet after diet yet, for some reason, their weight continues to increase.  We all know that Australia is currently in the grips of an obesity epidemic and the solution offered by ‘experts’ is those who are overweight just need to eat less and exercise more.  This is just so off the mark as there are a number of considerations to take into account.

Let’s start with hormones – oestrogen, progesterone, testosterone, insulin, adrenaline, cortisol, gherlin, leptin, thyroxine…this is just the beginning!  An imbalance of any of these hormones can have an adverse effect on your weight and health, and eating less / moving more will not ‘fix’ the problem.

Stress is another consideration – if you are overly stressed, then weight loss is virtually impossible.  The chemical changes that occur in your body when you are stressed triggers sugar cravings.  Also, fat stores are retained simply because your body is trying to ‘insulate’ itself against the stress.

As the weight loss process involves the elimination of excess fat cells – and the toxins contained within them – it is, therefore vital that the liver is at it’s optimal function.  The quicker the liver can process the fat cells, the ‘quicker’ you lose weight.  Therefore, it is important that the liver is supported during weight loss….and that doesn’t happen with weight loss shakes & calorie restriction.

The body is complex which means only a holistic  program can address and correct all potential body imbalances, so weight loss can happen – and that is exactly what The Natural Way offers.
