3 Things About Successful Weight Loss You Never Knew

  1. You will Face Plateaus: Even if you stick to your eating plan 100% week after week, you will face times when the scales do not budge…sometimes for more than a week. This is simply thanks to the way our physiology works – your body will not ‘allow itself’ to shed 1kg a week, for every week until you get to goal.  So don’t be disappointed if this happens – instead, change something (try a different breakfast, exercise in the evenings rather than the morning etc) to challenge the body and the results will follow.
  2. Some People will Annoy You: There will be people who are genuinely curious about your weight loss.  While some of their comments might seem confronting, keep in mind that they probably don’t mean to offend you.  Losing weight is a very personal experience, and it’s easy to be sensitive if others are questioning your motives & what you are doing.  The more annoying person though is those who try to sabotage you. The issue with any kind of personal change is that it threatens the status quo — something that most people try to resist.  This is no different for weight loss:  besides they don’t want their friend / family member to look ‘hotter’ than them.  These people are best to avoid as they are the type of offer you chocolate / junk food to try and ‘test’ your will-power.
  3. The Journey is Never Over: The phrase ‘going on a diet’ is misleading. It implies a journey, with a defined beginning and an end. In reality, there is no end.  It’s not uncommon for people to get to their goal and go back to their ‘old’ eating habits.  Guess what?  There is no way you will keep your weight off if you do this.  To be truly successful with your weight loss, there is no end.  You’ll always have to work to incorporate good eating as a part of your new life — one where making healthy food choices is as important to you as working, sleeping, and socialising. But you won’t regret a minute of your journey, because you will enjoy a much better life.
