Alcohol and Your Weight Loss

Alcohol contains only empty calories:  this means that there ARE calories in alcohol however these calories have absolutely no nutritional value (and therefore, have NO benefit to your health).  Alcohol does not contain any nutrients and it can also hinder your body’s ability to absorb vitamins and minerals from the food you eat.  This is because alcohol can inflame & irritate your gastrointestinal tract, which them compromises your body’s ability to digest and absorb nutrients from the food you eat.

The other problem with alcohol is the effect it has on your liver.  Your body cannot store alcohol, so it must be metabolized immediately after you drink it.  Your body sends alcohol to the liver, which then produces the necessary chemicals to help break down it down.  So when you drink, your body makes breaking down alcohol a priority over all other metabolic  processes.   This means your body won’t metabolize proteins, carbohydrates and fats as efficiently, so your body is much more likely to store these nutrients as fat.

In a nutshell, alcohol is calorie-laden, has no nutritional value, can cause malnutrition & liver damage (in the long term) and slow down your metabolism…in conclusion, you could say alcohol is a dieting disaster!
