Is Coffee Good For Me?

As you would expect, there is a lot written about the topic.  On the positive side, research has shown that regular coffee consumption may reduce the risk of developing certain diseases and ailments including:

  • Alziehmers
  • Parkinsons’ disease
  • Gallstones
  • Certain types of cancers
  • Asthma attacks
  • Heart rhythm abnormalities
  • Strokes
  • Cirrhosis of the Liver

The above list makes coffee sound like the health elixir we shouldn’t live without.  However, there are two-sides to every story.  The reported negative effects of regular coffee consumption includes insomnia, anxiety, increase in blood pressure, dehydration (caused by the diuretic action of caffeine), heartburn and teeth browning.  Also, caffeine in the blood can block the absorption of certain important minerals like magnesium, iron, zinc and calcium.  In fact, a history of high coffee consumption can increase your risk of developing osteoporosis.
