Is Coffee Good For Me?

It’s a morning ritual for some of us right?  Stumble out of bed, feeling a bit tired and disoriented UNTIL you have that first cup of coffee.  Thanks to the jolt of caffeine, you are suddenly awake, alert and ready to face the brand new day!  While that cuppa might give you the boost you need in the morning, what you really want to know is coffee good for your health?

Nothing like a BIG cup of coffee to start your day: but is it really good for you?

Nothing like a BIG cup of coffee to start your day: but is it really good for you?

As you would expect, there is a lot written about the topic.  On the positive side, research has shown that regular coffee consumption may reduce the risk of developing certain diseases and ailments including:

  • Alziehmers
  • Parkinsons’ disease
  • Gallstones
  • Certain types of cancers
  • Asthma attacks
  • Heart rhythm abnormalities
  • Strokes
  • Cirrhosis of the Liver

The above list makes coffee sound like the health elixir we shouldn’t live without.  However, there are two-sides to every story.  The reported negative effects of regular coffee consumption includes insomnia, anxiety, increase in blood pressure, dehydration (caused by the diuretic action of caffeine), heartburn and teeth browning.  Also, caffeine in the blood can block the absorption of certain important minerals like magnesium, iron, zinc and calcium.  In fact, a history of high coffee consumption can increase your risk of developing osteoporosis.

So what does The Natural Way think of coffee?  Well, if you are on a weight loss program with us, it is best to avoid coffee if you want to get the best results.  The reason for this is two-fold:  firstly, coffee consumption would impair the purifying benefits of the program.  Our most cleansing weight loss programs – Health & Vitality and the Easy Body Program – will benefit your body the best if coffee is not consumed.  De-xtra, our powerful detox formulation, can also do its ‘work’ much better without the presence of caffeine in the system.  Secondly, coffee can equal BIG calories.  Did you know that a Grande Caffe Mocha from Starbucks (made on full cream milk) contains 360 calories?  That exceeds your calorie allowance for lunch on the Your Choice program – DISASTER!

However, like all things, coffee is fine in moderation and once you get to your goal weight you will be able to indulge in your daily cuppa guilt-free.  As you lose weight with The Natural Way, your consultant will educate you on healthy eating (and drinking) habits for LIFE through our Healthy Living Maintenance program.  Once you arrive at your goal weight you will know exactly what you need to do to keep your weight off FOREVER, including healthy ways to enjoy coffee that won’t impact on your health & slim, new body!
