Planning is the Key to Weight Loss Success

Have you heard this old saying before: If you fail to plan, than you are planning to fail. If you really want something, it’s not likely to just fall in your lap. You need to be thoroughly prepared and committed, then set a goal and focus on the ‘prize’ you hope to achieve at the end. Weight loss is no different, as planning is a very important part of ensuring you get to achieve your goal weight.

I recently read a news article which featured an overview of a new dieting book by Susie Burrell called ‘Monday-to-Friday diet’. While I think the book may contain some ‘questionable’ advice (such as having one low-calorie day a week, which is disastrous for your metabolism!), the article did have some excellent tips for ensuring a successful weight loss journey.

Be organised: complete a meal planner for the upcoming week, shop over the weekend and make sure you buy enough for breakfast, lunch, dinner & healthy snacks for at least the working week.

Cook at least two meals from your plan and freeze them on Sunday. This way you know that if you get held up at work, you have got a weight loss friendly meal waiting for you.

In addition to the meal planner, also schedule an exercise plan for following week. The ‘Monday-to-Friday’ Diet book suggests that you prioritise Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday for exercise and if things get busy later in the week you know you have at least three sessions done. It’s always good to do at least one exercise session on the weekend, as you usually have more time to exercise.

Susie Burrell also suggests you take your lunch to work four days a week and avoid eating at your desk. Personally, I think you should take your own lunch to work 5 days a week, as you won’t be tempted with the ‘wrong’ takeaways AND you will save even more money!
