Australia 3rd in World Obesity Rankings

No matter which newspaper you read, almost every day there seems to be an article about the rising rate of obesity.  I came across one such article last week in The Courier Mail (http://www.couriermail.com.au/news/world/tsunami-of-obesity-worldwide-study/story-e6freoox-1226000220684) and quite frankly, the article really scared me.

Basically, in the last 30 years, the estimated number of dangerously overweight men and women has doubled globally.  The research, conducted by a team from Imperial College, Harvard University and WHO, also believes that one in nine adults are now clinically obese – and go on to describe this rapid increase in numbers as an obesity ‘tsunami’.

But wait there’s more…so how does the obesity figures in Australia compare to the rest of the ‘wealthy’ nations?  Well, we all know Australians like to be on the podium when medals are being given out, and we have earned a bronze for fattest women (beaten only by America and New Zealand) and bronze again for the most overweight men (with America, again, taking line honours and UK second place).  However, this is one event where we DO NOT want to aspire for the gold.

It seems crazy really – Australian climates, no matter where you live, are perfectly conducive for outdoor activity, yet we are fighting a real health ‘crisis’ and not winning the battle.  And the obesity battle is prematurely killing us:  According to the WHO, being too fat causes three million annual premature deaths across the world  from related diseases such as heart disease, diabetes, cancers and other disorders.  That means, across the world, literally millions of dollars are being spent daily on treating obesity-related preventable disease states in government owned hospitals…no wonder we are struggling to recover from the economic effects of the GFC!

Australia, it’s time to give up the bronze medal !  If not just to ‘ease’ the cost on our government-funded hospitals, but also for the sake of your loved ones.  The Natural Way can literally offer you the lifeline you need to get back the body you want and therefore prolong your life!  Call 1300 SLIMMER (7546637) TODAY and make a FREE appointment to discuss your weight loss and health care needs.

One Response to Australia 3rd in World Obesity Rankings

  1. It’s sad to see that still, 4 years on from this article being posted, that Australia has not woken up to the harsh realities of obesity and the danger it is doing to our health.

We recently wrote a blog post on how Australia’s youth NEEDS to be educated on the affects of their health choices, and to start to take some accountability for their health.

Feel free to read out post here (http://bit.ly/1KX9OoL) We’d love to hear your thoughts!
